Trip Report

Nooksack Cirque — Saturday, May. 10, 2025

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area

Had the trail to myself with the imperfect forecast; only had some drips toward the end of the return leg.

Roads to the trailhead off Mt. Baker Highway had very recently been regraded and rolled, and are as smooth and pothole-free as they'll every be. The road to Hannegan Pass TH will never be better.

I spent some time below the trailhead getting some shots with the big camera.  After a half hour, headed off toward the trail. The sawn log across Ruth Creek is well to the right once you descend from the parking lot.

After you get back to the old forest road trail, the next three miles are fine. You can see a lot of recent touch-ups to the trail, creating bypass drains and run-offs and such to maintain the trail's good shape.

Not much to report over the last mile or so; nothing much has changed since last year. After about four miles you reach the first main interface with the riverbed. There are a few campsites over the next few hundred yards. You can also head out into the river rock bars, but you'll get wet.

Did you find this trip report helpful?
