Trip Report

McClellan Butte — Monday, May. 26, 2025

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
West-facing slopes below summit

Started at 0620, stopped just before summit at 0920, returned to trailhead at 1130.

Trail is largely in good condition with a few blowdowns that are manageable but could use cleaning up, if not removal. No tread or drainage issues. Snow begins around 3600' (at the first avvy chute on the first long traverse south) and covers most of trail from that point on. Well-consolidated on the eastern face, a bit softer and slushier on the western, with the brief south face being mostly melted out. I advise bringing an ice axe, maybe traction, definitely good sunglasses. The path is well-packed, although there is a brief divergence shortly after entering the west-facing slope, keep the the lower path.

On account of the heavy rain softening the snow (with a very steep path ahead) and lack of views, I stopped right where the trail switches up to meet the ridgeline. The bootpath seemed well beaten in past that, however. Can't speak to the conditions of the rocky true summit.
