Trip Report

Wahclella Falls, Elowah and Upper McCord Creek Falls — Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026

Southwest Washington > Columbia River Gorge - OR
Elowah Falls.

I did a trail run starting/ending at the Elowah Falls trailhead. I first headed east, sticking to the trail closest to the highway (Historic Columbia River Hwy State Trail), until I reached the Wahclella Falls trailhead.

The Wahclella Falls trail is closed for a landslide at the moment, and the trail is gated at the first bridge. After turning around here, I headed back west along Gorge Trail #400.

The turn-off trail to Munra Point has a sign marking the trail as closed, but I thought I'd go and see how it looked anyway. It is in really rough shape, and is something of a scramble up very steep and slippery mud/loose rock. I went up to the viewpoint about .4 miles from the turn-off and then turned around since I didn't have time for the slow-going this trail would require. It's closed for a reason...

The bridge at Elowah Falls on Gorge Trail #400 is washed out, but the river is not hard to cross.

I took the detour to Upper McCord Creek Falls before returning to the Elowah Falls trailhead, and that section of trail is very cool and in good shape.

Wahclella Falls closed trail.
Washed out bridge at Elowah Falls.
Viewpoint part way up to Munra Point.
