North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Early treefall

Biked/Hiked to Mt. Forgotten Meadows 2/12

Drive: some morning frost on the loop, otherwise fine. Saw several cars parked in the turn-around, not the best idea.

Bike: loop melted until beaver creek campground, the ice is firm but rough until the ice caves where it smooths out some. I took the cutoff road to the Perry creek trail and it was melted out.

Hike: A big tree to get under initially but its passable, snow begins half mile from perry creek trail and is sporadically thick and thin. Lots of grip, didn't need traction until halfway up final switch back to meadows where I put on crampons. Once reaching the meadows the snow turned into powder for 2-3 inches before I bit into a hard crust. Used Crampons throughout the meadow.

Beautiful hike, one of my favorites. Incredible views!
