Baldy Mountain — Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026

Central Washington > Yakima

We camped overnight at Umtanum Recreation Area on Friday and drove up to the road side parking area to begin our hike.

We arrvied just before 0800 this morning and were the first car there. The sunrise was beautiful!

We decided to take the the route that goes left before the gate this time. It is a bit longer than going straight up the hillside, but not by much. You merge with the other trail at about 1 mile and then the trail gets steeper until you summit.

Views were a bit socked in today, we couldnt see much of the Enchantments or Stu, but the rolling hills of the Yakima Canyon are just stunning.

There is a summit register to sign. On our way down, we ran into multiple other parties coming up.

There wasnt any ice on the trail today, but on the way down the firm ground was warming up and becoming a little slick with mud.

4 miles round trip with 2k gain. Such a great training hike/shoulder season hike!
