To celebrate my 87th BD we walked the 3/4 mile Witham Road to Weyer Point where we saw about 50 heron on the remaining trestle pier! The day was mostly cloudy with a few welcoming sun breaks. The many gulls feeding were fun to watch as they would fly by with a clam in their beak, drop it to crack it open on a rock and then enjoy its contents! Several bufflehead, 4 geese, 2 widgeon and a grebe were ducks seen from our bench at Weyer Point. After checking out the Woodard Bay Viewpoint where the many unoccupied cormorant nests were seen across Henderson Inlet, we returned to Weyer Point where we had lunch! No harbor seals were seen on the log boom! We saw very few others today probably because of the mostly cloudy day with temps in the mid 40's and predicted afternoon rain! We enjoyed the beauty and peacefulness of the area. We usually return to the parking area via the 1-1/2mile loop through the forest, but because of the darkening sky and predicted rain, we returned on the Witham Road which is a 1/2 mile shorter. A light rain began about 1/4 mile from the parking lot! I will include a link below to a previous report and one telling the interesting history of the area.

I had to do a second take on that first picture. So amazing to see so many great blue herons so close together.

We have always seen them this time of year ever since a lady told us about them the second time we were there! They are very fun to see and watch!

They are very fun to watch! This one of my favorite hikes and one I could do daily if it were only minutes from our home! Thank you for the BD wishes!
