The viking kids are currently 6 and 3, and it was time for them to climb a mountain! We left the west side late morning, and stopped for lunch in Cle Elum to break up the drive. Then it was up to the trailhead on a fairly smooth road. Hike was short, we took the direct route to the lookout. It wasn't particularly steep or nerve-wracking. There were only a couple spots on the top switchbacks where we held the kids' hands on the way down. Other than that, they had some good practice trying out their new trekking poles. The wind was whipping across the top of the ridge pretty hard! No volunteer on duty that day so the lookout was locked, and we just snapped some pics and took in the view. Logged a geocache on the way down, and then we pointed our trusty Subaru back home! Stopped in North Bend for dinner, again to break up the drive, but this time to wait out the worst of Friday night traffic as well.
