Trip Report
Jade Lake, Marmot Lake & Pea Soup Lake — Monday, Jun. 29, 2015

0mi-2mi- start at trailhead (forest road 4330 after salmon la sac - take care because Scatter creek is covering the road- our VW Jetta made it but with lots of rainfall, be careful)
2mi-3.5or4mi- middle of Hyas lake (meander up and down some small hills and cross minor streams - coming back through this part felt endless)
~3.5or4mi-5mi- begin ascending to deception pass (steep ascension, but not too bad- do NOT turn off at the trail marked "tuck and Robin lakes")
5mi- deception pass (pass the sign that says PCT and look for the easily spotted sign pointing you left to marmot lake)
5.1mi-~7mi- descend ~800ft into Hozzbizz basin (lots of meadows and wildflowers with birds singing)
7mi-9mi- ascend ~900ft (trail is fairly overgrown all through the basin but easy enough to follow)
9mi-10mi- take left fork and the Y and approx 20yds up see sign that says "hikers only" and then reach Marmot Lake and find a camping spot.
10mi-~11.5mi- hike up to Jade lake - keep the shore of marmot lake on your right and follow the trail and mostly the cairns. After crossing an inlet stream (which is a ways down the lake) continue up a talus slope making sure to follow the cairns. Eventually reach a path that you follow past a small pond, No Name Lake, and finally arrive at Jade lake.
11.5mi-13mi - climb to top of lynch glacier and on the opposite side see Pea Soup Lake and Mt. Daniel.
The views on this hike are STUNNING and worth it. My sister and I camped for two nights at marmot lake. First day we started at 2:20pm and reached marmot lake and our campsite at 6:40pm. The second day we went to Jade lake and climbed lynch glacier - only took about half the day- spent some time in Jade lake and climbing around near the glacier and then back in marmot lake). The third day we left our camp at 7:30am and finished before 11am. Tough hike for sure, but if you have the endurance, you can finish it. Definitely climb up lynch glacier (keep to the sides because who knows how thick the ice is, there is a river flowing out from it). Enjoy! A perfect ~26 mile backpacking trip over 2.5 days!

Lynch glacier?
Do you mean lynch glacier or dip top gap? If you went up the lynch glacier you would have made it to the summit of mt Daniel. It's the glacier you can see on the other side of pea soup lake. There's a permanent snow field/glacier that goes up to dip top gap where you get the views of pea soup and Daniel that tou posted. We went there a few weeks ago, Jade lake is stunning!

Probably meant Dip Top gap. We had to do a lot of guesswork because there was not a lot of information.

Pea Soup Portion
Did getting over the snow/glacier require any special equipment? I am not very experienced on glacier travel although I do have an ice axe and can self-arrest-- any tips?

Hi,
I really want to do this backpacking trip but I cant seem to find any information about the backpacking permits. Are they necessary for this? I know that the NW Forest Pass for the parking is required though. Thanks!

At the time we went the only permit required was for parking!

Equipment
Did you need ice axe or crampons to make it to Dip Top Gap/Pea Soup Lake? Also, IF you wanted to continue up to the Lynch Glacier would you need gear? Thanks!

This is amazing! I really want to do this hike, but not sure how to get the topographic map of the area. How did you get one?
