Trip Report
Snoquera Falls Loop — Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015
Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Hiking Snoquera Falls Loop today was sketchy at best! There were downed trees all over the trail, and snow was quite deep at times (I was sinking to my upper thighs near the actual falls). Taking the counter-clockwise route, the elk had kept the trail somewhat noticeable. But once I passed the falls, I couldn't find the trail. I opted for the most direct route back, which was straight downhill. While trying my best to parallel the running water from the falls, I found myself having to scoot down on my backside and climb over many fallen trees. I would not recommend this hike while in its current condition unless you're very prepared with snowshoes, map and compass, and company. Not to mention the falls weren't running that much anyway, although I was witness to a thundering ice fall as I approached!
