a rainy early morning hike. Got to the trailhead at 9, and to the top of mount mccausland by 10:40. Relatively easy hike until you get to the unmarked side path that leads steeply to the top. Some downed trees, very muddy/ slippery spots, & snow- but nothing too difficult. Once you have lake Valhalla on your left, start looking for the side trail on your right before you head too far down the trail. (We almost passed it) The trail is pretty overgrown, so we were picking up tons of water from the plants. Very wet and ended up being very cold from the wind on our wet clothes. Hiking poles were incredibly helpful for this section because it was really steep, uneven, & slick. We didn't even get a view because we were sitting in a cloud but I still loved the workout. Definitely a stair climb, but I am already planning a return trip on a sunny day for the views.

Hello! I am planning on hiking Mount McCausland tomorrow and I was wondering if you had a NW Forest Pass with you before you hiked the mountain. On the WTA website it says it is not necessary, but on other websites I found that it is required. Thank you very much!
