Trip Report

Thunder Knob — Monday, Oct. 10, 2016

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
We stopped for a short hike on a return from the Methow Valley to find the bridge(s) over Colonial Creek were out (looked more like washed out, than intentionally removed). Colonial Creek was running high enough to make a rock hop impossible. After brush bashing upstream, we found a good log crossing. The easiest way to reach the log crossing is to walk the road up to campsite 27. Go through the campsite and take the informal trail that is behind the fire ring. The log crossing (single log) is slightly downstream of where the informal trail meets the creek. After crossing the creek and climbing up on the far bank, turn downstream, going over a few large logs and follow the old, mossy, creek bed until reaching the trail. At that point, turn left and follow the great trail to the viewpoints of Diablo Lake
