We had a fantastic three night trip to Toleak Point.

Note: There are two sections of the trail that are not passable during high tide. The 0.6 mile stretch of beach from Taylor Point to Scotts Bluff requires a tide lower than +4.5. The section of beach just south of Scotts Bluff requires a tide lower than +4.

We found the Cairn hiking time estimates useful for timing the hike. In addition, the Cairn map accurately depicted the few spots on the trail that included decent Verizon cell coverage (blue dots on the map). We had the best coverage at Strawberry and Toleak points.

The overland trails at Taylor Point and Scotts Bluff were both very muddy. The kids in our group (eight years old and up) did fine with the help of the ropes but we all got pretty muddy.

We got a permit ($8/day/adult) and bear canisters (free loan with permit) at the WIC in Port Angeles. The canisters were Backpacker's Cache 10L canisters and each held roughly 5 person days of food. We saw one raccoon and lots of tracks and were happy we had canisters.

We also saw many eagles at Strawberry Point, lots of elk tracks on the beach, and one deer.

There were many small streams coming down to the beach and water was readily available for a squeeze filter. Pump filters that require a pool of water would have required more work to find a source.
