Arrived at the trailhead quite early, around 730-740ish, but we were delayed by one hour by another party, so the three of us decided to hike to Dege Peak in wait. We nearly gained the summit before our second party called in.
So we really started on the trail at roughly 9ish. The trail begins in the forest and climbs a ridge quickly before opening out into a stony talus slope, and then begins ascending the barren slopes of First Burroughs.
After a little bit of a slog we reached the open tabletop of first burroughs, which was one of the strangest places I have ever been to. A large, flat, cold tabletop mountain on the shoulder of Mount Rainier crowded with people. So naturally we didn't stay there for long because of the crows and made out way over to Second Burroughs, which was a little bit more of a climb. Second Burroughs, unfortunately, had an equal amount of people, if not more, so after a salami snack down at the junction with Glacier Basin, our group of seven began the ascent of Third Burroughs, which we had heard was a hot, steep slog.
And it was.
So after no more than 45 minutes of climbing we gained third burroughs.
It was nice.
Then we went back down, hiked a half mile into Glacier Basin, then took the Shadow Lake trail back to Sunrise
Fun hike, loved the crevasses, hated the crowds. Absolutely hated them
