Trip Report

Sheep Lake — Thursday, Jun. 27, 2019

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Sheep lake

Road - Good for any vehicle obviously.

Bugs- what bugs?

Trail conditions- 1 snowfield and 1 log to cross. The log is not of the step of but the scoot your boot and swing your legs variety  :).

Weather- 39 degrees when arrived at about 0800, and was cloudy foggy and cold all day.

General- It would be fitting that I saw a bunch of bighorns on the way to sheep lake, saw a nice group between Naches and gold creek. The original plan was to go to sourdough gap and fish on the way back, with the weather there would have been no views so just settled with fishing, trail was beautiful elk could be seen resting in the valley along the American River, and lots of wildflowers in bloom. The trail is incredible easy, and has enough views to keep you interested. Lots of small brook trout in the lake that willingly bite lures. The Corgi did not have any troubles either but sometimes I think he's a more conditioned hiker than I am.

Naches peak
Variety of flowers
Bighorns along 410
