Trip Report

Dosewallips River Road — Thursday, Mar. 30, 2023

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
This is the campground looking towards the river and you can see the outhouse in the center of the pic in the trees.

Only one vehicle at trailhead when we arrived and a different one when we left.

Elkhorn Campground is closed to camping.

There was no snow on the trail until we encountered a 300 foot long diminishing patch just after Elkhorn Campground. Then the next snow was the rock pile just before passing under the rock overhang at the base of the Dosewallips Cascading Waterfall.

We then encountered snow from the top of the hill 5.7 miles in, until the campground. Snow to the campground never got over the top of our mid height hiking boots. The campground had large bare spots. Very campable.

Treefall has now hit all the buildings. Snow depth in the area of the buildings, an open area, was over 12 inches deep.

Typical snow after waterfall and before campground.
The rock pile crossing below the Constance pillow lava block.
The skree slide that now crosses the road on the steeo uphill.
