Loved this trail! Havent explored this area much and had a great time on this surprising lush hike. We got to the trailhead at about 3pm, no sign at the metal gate where the trail starts but its the only gate around. We were definitely huffing and puffing once the incline started but had beautiful wildflowers and huge butterflies flanking us periodically. This trail is a bit overgrown right now so long pants would definitely be appreciated by some.
At the top we stopped at the lake which was sparkling gorgeous. The bugs up here were pretty bad especially around the time of day that we were there. We opted to follow the (very overgrown) boot path around the lake going clockwise to get to this little peninsula/island in the middle of the lake. We saw another family there that was camping and let us know there wasn't a whole lot of room for more people (they didn't seem excited to have company) but we found a spot away from them to go for a quick swim before heading back down. Back at the car by 7 30pm for a gorgeous sunset drive home.
