16 Twitter Handles for Road and Weather Information

This week's storms and flooding are a reminder that it's good practice to check road and weather conditions before leaving home for a hike.

There are a number of ways for Washington hikers to research road closures and weather. If you use Twitter, these accounts may help you follow the latest news on road closures, weather and safety advice to make sure you arrive at the trailhead safely:

Road alerts

@wsdot - Main Washington State Department of Transportation account that provides major updates on all Washington roads and gives driving tips.

@wsdot_passes - Automated account that provides frequent updates on pass conditions, including Stevens, Snoqualmie, and Blewett.

@WSDOT_East - Road closure and traffic information for east of the Cascade Mountains. Area covered includes Ellensburg to Spokane.

@wsdot_traffic - Washington-wide traffic updates and news.

Land managers

@olympicforest - Official Olympic National Forest account. Provides info on road and campground closures.

@OkaWenNF - Official account for the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Provides road closure updates and forest news.

@Smokey_MBS - Official Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest account. Gives updates on seasonal road closures.

@GPNF - Official Gifford Pinchot National Forest account. Provides road closure updates and forest news.
