Before & After: Repairing a Blanchard Mountain Route to Oyster Dome
A popular hiking route to Oyster Dome was all but impassible before WTA crews cleared the way earlier this year. Now, a Backcountry Response Team crew camping nearby will put in four intensive days of additional work on the Blanchard Mountain trail system.
This morning, seven trail maintenance volunteers embarked on the first Backcountry Response Team (BCRT) trip WTA has ever run on the Blanchard Mountain trail system. The crew will spend four days continuing winter repairs on the trail system.
Over the winter, logs and debris had taken their toll on the Samish Bay Connector Trail on Blanchard Mountain, outside Bellingham. The Department of Natural Resources called in WTA volunteers to make repairs. Our work resulted in a section of new, more sustainable tread on this popular hiking route to Oyster Dome.
