WTA's 8th Annual Northwest Exposure Photo Contest is accepting entries through October 17th.

Washington's hiking trails can lead you on many adventures. From the first blossom emerging from the snow to a breathtaking vista - these are the moments we treasure on trail. And they are the same amazing images we try to capture with our cameras.

If you like to take photos when you're out hiking, I encourage you to enter WTA's Northwest Exposure Photo Contest. Entries are being accepted through October 17, 2010, which gives you plenty of time to go hiking and capture that perfect picture (if you haven't already).

This year's categories include:

  • Wild Landscapes - Highlight the amazing places you have visited on trails in Washington. **Please note in past years this category required that the photos be taken in a designated wilderness. That is not the case this year.

  • Flora & Fauna - Photos of native plants or animals found on hiking trails in Washington —from pikas to bears, from moss to lupine.
  • Hikers in Action - Showcase hikers doing their thing, from ascending a trail to enjoying the perfect backcountry camp.
  • Families on Trail - Capture generations (young & old) enjoying hiking in Washington together.
  • Offbeat - Crazy, weird or humorous photos taken on the trails in Washington.

Entering your photos in Northwest Exposure is a fun way to help protect trails by sharing with others the many great qualities of hiking in Washington. Plus, there are some great prizes up for grabs, including LowePro camera bags. The winners will be featured online and in Washington Trails magazine, with the grand prize photo on the cover of the January/February 2011 issue.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your camera, hit the trail and enter your best photo today.
