Four Terrific Maintenance Trips on the Olympic Peninsula
For many, the Olympic Peninsula can be a bit of a drive for a day work party. Make the most of your time spent here and lend a hand to trails by spending two or more days helping us build and maintain trails in the lush Olympic rainforest! Coming up in September, WTA has a weekend work party and several Backcountry Response Team (BCRT) trips that could use your help.
The Olympic Peninsula is an enchanting oasis in Washington, chock-full of lush green forests, wide, raging rivers, craggy mountains, and rugged trails leading to wild places. But the trails receive plenty of wear and tear from Mother Nature, so we need your help to keep them in good shape for hikers.
Camping + trail work + great volunteers = a weekend adventure
In September, WTA has several overnight options for work parties on the Peninsula. Make the most of your time spent here and lend a hand to trails by spending two or more days helping us build and maintain trails in the lush Olympic rainforest! We'd like to see you for the duration of each trip you sign up for, but any amount of time you can commit is appreciated.
You'll be able to camp nearby at each of these locations, so hiking to and from the work will be convenient. Your home away from home will provide a scenic backdrop where you can explore the area or just relax with your fellow volunteers after a day of trail work.
Lower South Fork Skokomish weekend
September 6 & 7

The best part about a weekend work party is the potluck in the middle! Join us for both days of this work party and on Saturday night, WTA will provide hamburgers, veggie burgers, condiments and soda pop. Help us round out the meal by bringing along a side dish to share with your fellow volunteers.
Help us finish up some reroute projects that we started earlier in the season, including the completion of a log retaining wall. During the day, you'll work in ancient forest near cool waters, perfect for relaxing lunch spots. This trail is used by many hikers to access Olympic National Park, so clearing the way for them is always greatly appreciated.

Lower South Fork Skokomish BCRT
September 11 - 14

If you had a fantastic time on the weekend workparty, or if you couldn't make it and still want to visit this beautiful area, this Backcountry Response Team trip would love to have you along. We'll camp about two miles in at the historic Lebar Homestead Camp, and from there will restore boardwalk by day, and enjoy the sights and sounds of this peaceful river valley by night.

Pyramid Peak BCRT
September 18 - 21

Help WTA and the National Park Service create a new, safe alternative to a section of the Pyramid Peak trail that slides away every year, making it nearly impossible for hikers to access the beautiful views of Lake Crescent from the summit. You'll make the easy 1.25 hike to the work site to help establish a new route that will safely carry hikers to the top.
Though this is a BCRT, you'll be able to camp in luxury at the Fairholme Campground on Lake Crescent. This is a well-appointed campground with plenty of room, so feel free to pack all the amenities you may need.

Appleton Pass/Boulder Lake BCRT
September 18 - 21
Unbelievably scenic Appleton Pass makes this location a popular one, and with camp at the Olympic Hot Springs, this one fills up fast. But oftentimes, folks sign up far in advance, and when the time comes, life may get in the way and they have to cancel.
