What a great day for this hike! Road is in good condition, though the brush is starting to become overgrown in sections and there were a few small areas where slower travel was better than hitting a tire popping rock wrong.
trail was in great condition with no real road blocks to speak of. The trail sets a good pace climbing steadily up well planned switchbacks until the pct junction. Do beware at that junction there is a bees nest in the exposed root system which of the tree that has trail markers on it.
We opted for making it to valhalla before climbing mccausland. The lake was perfect for swimming and we found a great rock to jump in off of. The horse flies were exceptionally annoying at the lake, though not bad enough to keep us from enjoying the water. After cooling off we made the dusty trip up the rugged trail on mount McCausland. Trail side blueberries were a wonderful distraction and kept us energized.
if you’re looking for a good workout with an amazing payoff this trail is wonderful in all kinds of weather!
