We recently went in search of delicious ways to stuff a tortilla on trail. From sweet potatoes to smoked trout, pinto beans to hommous, you blew us away with filling ideas and alternatives to the tortilla. (Waffles are a revelation.) Illustrator (and WTA volunteer) Rebecca Jensen turned a few of those into this recipe reference.

We've included some extra kid-friendly recipe ideas below the illustration, too.

Try them out and let us know your or your family's favorite wrap ideas.

Peanut butter granola roll-up

Hiking mom, Shannon Schultz, said her kids love these put-it-all-together roll-ups.

  • Nut butter of your choice (peanut, almond or cashew butter)
  • Honey
  • Granola
  • Dried fruit

Waffle/berry burrito

Make waffles for breakfast and use them again for lunch with fantastic idea from Rashel Fitchett

  • Homemade waffle layered with peanut butter, frozen strawberries, & sweetener (Splenda, stevia, agave, honey, etc).
  • Roll it up and use suran wrap & tinfoil to keep it together.

Leftover pizza wrap

We love the simplicity of this idea that turns Friday night leftovers into a quick Saturday hiking lunch by trail food blogger, Sarah Kirkconnell.

  • Roll a piece of pizza up and make a pizza wrap

Dal wrap

A lot of Indian dishes can be wrapped up in a tortilla or naan, but with a dal dish, you'll be sure to get some good protein from the lentils. Plus, there are so many kinds of different takes on dal that you can go back to this combo again and again without ever getting bored.
