The Issaquah Alps, nestled in the foothills east of Seattle, provide a popular local hiking destination for Puget Sound. The area is comprised of three mountains (Cougar, Tiger and Squak), the least well-known of which is Squak Mountain.
In 2014, King County, working with the Trust for Public Land, purchased 226 acres in the valley between Cougar and Squak Mountains to allow for expanded recreational opportunities in the area.
The new land creates a 730-acre Cougar/Squak Corridor Park that contains the headwaters of a salmon-bearing stream, deep forests, hiking trails and other scenic attractions. WTA, the Issaquah Alps Trail Club and King County have already been hard at work creating a new trail system in the area, but there's plenty of time for you to help shape future trails and amenities.
