"Every trail has something wonderful to offer in any weather. The best part about Washington trails is that we have a variety of locations to choose from with varying degrees of difficulty,” said James Alexander, a WTA employee and a Hike the State 2024 speaker.

Hike the State, WTA’s annual hike-sharing event, is free and online from 6–7 p.m. on May 21. WTA staff who are local experts are excited to share some of their favorite trails with you. WTA offers extensive online hiking resources. With so many options, however, a little extra personal inspiration can help you kick off another great hiking season. No matter what kind of hike you’re looking for, there’s a little something for everyone. This event is not only about hiking. It is about hiking in Washington, which our staff experts all agree is unparalleled.

“I'm pretty sure Washington is located somewhere between Middle Earth and Narnia,” speaker Joe Gonzalez said. “Between the jagged peaks, lush forests and outstanding geology, it feels like Washington was pulled from a fantasy book."

At Hike the State, you’ll hear about hikes in the vastly different environments Washington has to offer. And you’ll hear tips and resources to help you plan safe and enjoyable hikes in different landscapes and weather conditions.

As speaker Tiffany Chou says, “Walk in one direction, you find the mountains; walk in another, you get the ocean; walk in yet another, you're in the desert, an urban forest, the rainforest, the shrubsteppe, old-growth trees.”

With so much to explore, it’s no wonder hikers flock to Hike the State. We hope you’ll join us!
