#LoveLocalTrails: Want a chance to win prizes by hiking trails close to home? Visit an urban trail in the month of February and leave a trip report with the hashtag #LoveLocalTrails. You'll be entered into the giveaway once for as many #LoveLocalTrails trip reports as you post. Three trip reporters will be selected to win a prize pack including a WTA-branded 40 oz. Stanley Flowstate Tumbler, a neck gaiter, a dry bag and more. The three winners will be selected at random and announced March 1.
Learn about safe winter recreation with WTA: Join WTA and Pierce County Parks on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. to learn more about how to get outside safely in the winter and get inspiration for your next winter adventure — whether that's at a park down the street or deep in the mountains. Register in advance online for this free virtual event.
North Cascades permit fee change: Starting March 2024, summer backcountry permits (for mid-May to early October trips) in North Cascades National Park will be $10 per person, in addition to a $6 permit fee. The fee prior to this change was $20 per permit, along with the $6 permit fee. (Learn more about backcountry and wilderness permits.)
Olympic National Forest road hazards: After rainy weather and snowmelt, a couple of forest roads in Olympic National Forest have suffered damage that may affect your hiking plans:
- FS-2372 near Wynoochee Lake just past Sastop Center Campground has experienced a large washout that has rendered the road inaccessible. Plan to use alternate routes if traveling in the area.
- FS-24, which was blocked by a landslide last week and cleared, has experienced another rockslide in the same area. Please avoid the area as personnel work to clear the slide debris.
Tiger Mountain road overnight closures: Through the end of March, SR 18 westbound on the east side of Tiger Mountain will have nightly closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday nights through Friday mornings. Expect delays as the road will be open but single-lane. The overnight closures will not occur on Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights.
