It’s Nov. 6. Veterans Day is a fee-free day. WTA and other organizations will be at Summon the Snow at the Seattle REI this Saturday! Cayuse Pass is closed at Mount Rainier National Park boundary for the winter and the Carter Falls trail is closed due to a dislodged bridge. And it’s now sno-park pass season! Here’s some news you may have missed while out on trail this week.

Fee-free day: Next Tuesday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day, a fee-free day. Parking fees will be waived on all federal and state lands, including those managed by the National Park Service, Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Washington State Parks, the Washington Department of Natural Resources and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Summon the Snow! Join WTA and many other organizations to celebrate the coming of winter at Seattle’s flagship REI this Saturday, Nov. 8, from 4–10 p.m. It’ll be a fun music festival and gear expo in one. Tickets are free but required for entry.
Cayuse Pass closure: Cayuse Pass/SR 123 is now closed to the Mount Rainier National Park boundary to the south, near Ohanapecosh Campground, for the winter. (It was previously closed at Stevens Canyon Road to the south.)
Carter Falls trail closed: The Carter Falls trail is closed until further notice. The log footbridge over the Nisqually River has been dislodged; there is no safe way to cross the river.
Sno-park pass season has started: Sno-park pass season starts in November (and ends in March), so make sure you know how to navigate sno-parks now that it’s officially winter in the mountains. Sno-park passes can be purchased online and are required at sno-parks, which are specifically cleared of snow during the winter. A list of sno-parks can be found on the Washington State Parks website.
