Meet our Hike-a-Thonners!

Posted by Kara Chin at Aug 18, 2009 10:50 AM |

Why make your miles count this August? Here are some of the reasons participants have joined together to hike for Hike-a-Thon.

Myk

Myk: I'm doing this for several reasons. First, I really believe in WTA and the work they do as stewards for our state’s trails. If you've enjoyed a hike on a trail in Washington, chances are it was made more enjoyable at least in part by WTA's work either building the trail, clearing the trail, or as lobbyists for hikers' rights.  Second, it’s important to me to teach our kids to not only enjoy the pastimes of hiking, camping, and to gain general survival skills (building fire, navigating, etc.), but also to respect the outdoors. Lastly, I am going to be joining the King County Search and Rescue Training later this year and I need to get into a lot better shape for that.

AnneM

Anne: Mother Nature has given me so much and WTA's Hike-a-Thon is my way to give a little bit back. I hike not only for exercise but for the awe factor.  Rounding the bend at a summit and finding some insane view fills me with such peace, serenity, and satisfaction. It's hard to put into words. Only true hikers know.

W Wheeler

Wendy: Why? I'm going to hike the miles anyhow. I might as well make them count for something more than my selfish pleasure!

Ella

Ella (in her mother's words): Ella just figured out how to walk in May 2009. Soon after this she discovered that hiking was a really fun past time. She joined Hike-a-Thon to help keep the beautiful trails maintained and open for her and her baby friends to enjoy for their lifetime.

R Lavigne

Rebecca: I don't take Washington's hiking trails and wilderness for granted. (Three years in Chicago took care of that.) That's part of why I'm participating in Hike-a-Thon 2009. The other part? I just want to hike a lot.

Whatever the reason, hiking for Hike-a-Thon is so much fun! If you see a Hike-a-Thonner on trail this August, (they're the ones with the "Sponsor Me!" signs on their backpacks) make sure to stop and say hello.

Hike-a-Thon 2009 is presented by Sherpa Adventure Gear.
