Meeting Lawmakers

Posted by Andrew Engelson at Jan 29, 2009 01:35 PM |

Well, some WTA members have been lobbying their legislators this afternoon.

Carol Person, from Olympia, spoke with her legislator, Rep. Sam Hunt about hunter safety legistlation ("he was encouraging on that", said Carol) and preserving DNR funding ("supportive, but thought it might be difficult this year.")

Many hikers are now in legislative meetings. We'll meet with Adam Kline (D-37) in a little bit.

Members are writing their letters to federal representatives, too while they're here (in return for some hiking socks.. ah bribery!)

Sue Hess, a WTA member from Bellingham, met with Rep. Dave Quall (D-40), who liked the sound of our hunter safety legislation ("I'm for safety for everyone," he said). Sue also took the Capitol tour...she'd never been to the legislature before "it was great, there were all kinds of kids on the tour too," she said.

I didn't know about the socks!

Hiking socks! Had I known that....naw, just joking. I participated in Hiker Lobby Day 3 or 4 years ago; it's awesome. Thanks all for doing your - or rather, OUR - part. Puts a lump in your throat to participate in such a wonderful process (well, sorta wonderful).
