Middle Fork Snoqualmie Road Closed
The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest closed the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Road (Forest Service road 56) for public safety until further notice. Recent, heavy storms caused enough damage to the road to make it impassable to vehicles.
**UPDATE** As of January 29, the barricades have been moved down the road to accomodate visitors to the Mailbox Peak Trailhead. The gate across the upper road will be open on weekends for better access to the upper parking lot and restrooms.
1/23/2014 Yesterday, the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest closed the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Road (Forest Service road 56) for public safety until further notice. Recent, heavy storms caused enough damage to the road to make it impassable to vehicles.
Trails impacted by the closure
The Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Road will be closed at mile 2.2, near Valley Camp and Mailbox Peak Trailhead. The road closure affects access to Goldmyer Hot Springs and the following trails:
- Middle Fork Snoqualmie River: Upstream Trail
- Snoqualmie Lake Trail
- Dingford Creek Trail
- CCC Road: Lower Trailhead
- CCC Road: Blowcreek Trailhead
Alternate routes
Mailbox Peak is a lot of Seattle-area hikers' go-to training trail. Since there is no parking at the Middle Fork closure, consider either taking a long warm-up bike or hike to the trailhead from home or using this opportunity to explore other great conditioning hikes in the area:
- Poo Poo Point - Chirico Trail
- Cable Line Trail
- Tiger Mountain Trail
- West Tiger Four-Summit Loop
- Mount Washington
At this time, Federal Highways Administration officials are determining how best to address repairs. The road is in the middle of a 2-year paving project to make it, in part, less susceptible to seasonal damage.
For updated information call the Snoqualmie Ranger District at 425-888-1421.

Status
According to the Middle Fork Road project website, the road finally re-opens today at 6pm, and will be open all weekend. Given the project thus far, I wouldn't be surprised by hiccups and passive aggression from the road crews though.
