Start 2024 Outside with Washington State Park's First Day Hikes
Spend your New Year's Day outside with Washington State Parks with their fun First Days Hikes activities this year!
What better way to kick off 2024 than to get some fresh air at one of Washington’s more than 40 beautiful state parks? Luckily, Washington State Parks (WSP) has the same idea — not only are Discover Pass parking fees waived on Jan. 1, 2024 (note that some parking areas may still require Sno-Park permits), but there are also some fun events you can check out.

Events will range from very accessible to more difficult, offering something for everyone. Photo by Kjmorty.
Bring the whole family or a group of friends to a state park near you to join a snowshoe hike, ranger-led hike, 5k walk/jog, lake paddling adventure, polar plunge or another fun activity offered by WSP. These events will range in difficulty, so folks looking for something ADA-accessible or moderately steep alike can find something fun to do that day.
Plus, everyone who attends a First Day Hikes event with WSP will receive a free collectible pin!
Some events require registration, so make sure to check online and do so if necessary before showing up. Find information for your region on the WSP website.
