Volunteer Spotlight: Kim, Norah and Adam

Crew Leader Hannah Tennent works with a lot of amazing volunteers. On a recent South Puyallup work party, three of those volunteers earned a shiny green, personalized hard hat. Meet Kim Hucker, Norah Scott and Adam Levermore!

 

 

Kim lives in Illinois, but travels to do trail work here in Washington when she visits her daughter in Seattle. "I became hooked on trail work parties by taking on one day last summer and returning the next day. I then completed two more last spring during my break so I could earn my helmet this summer. I was hoping to get at least 3 day parties in my 10 day visit from IL. But, circumstances beyond my control shortened my trip, so one day was it, but it was the most important because I earned my hard hat. I like volunteering on the trails because I love the outdoors, I love doing work that serves a purpose and I love meeting new people." 

Norah's first WTA work party was a school trip. She's now completing work parties as a bat mitzvah project. "My favorite part of [the work party] was how adventurous we got to be! I want to help people and nature for my bat mitzvah project and this helps me do all of that! It is also fun and helps me make friends and be close to nature." 

Adam is already excited about applying to be an ACL after he completes 25 work parties. "I’ve been bitten by the WTA bug. I did my first work party because I wanted to get back into the woods, but I was also struggling with my own tendency to be something of a hermit. It takes a lot to overcome the inertia of my living room couch, and I needed something tangible to motivate me out the door. After my first work party, I was hooked. I couldn’t wait to get back out and get sweaty, dirty, and exhausted on the trail. It’s such a contrast to my day-to-day routine sitting in front of a computer all day. It’s some of the hardest work I’ve ever done, but at the same time, the most rewarding."
