Washington Trails Wants You!

Washington Trails magazine is recruiting regional correspondents to write and photograph articles for our Take-a-Hike guide and editorial and feature content. Assignments may also be offered.

Have you ever gone on a hike or backpack that was so great you just couldn't wait to get back and share the experience with your friends, family or co-workers?

While hiking, do you find yourself taking mental notes along the way—everything from the vegetation, wildlife and scenery to potential campsites, water sources and distances covered? Or, how about taking lots of photographs, trying to capture that perfect scene to represent what you're seeing to share with others back home?

Have you been looking for a way to volunteer your editorial savvy and/or photographic skills to encourage and inspire others to share in a passion for hiking and the outdoors?

Here's your opportunity!

Washington Trails is recruiting a new team of regional correspondents. This will be our team of “go-to hiking pros” - writer and photographer specialists in their favorite hiking areas. Duties will be simple. Every issue we'll be looking for your recommendations on where readers should go hiking in different regions around the state (North, Central, South Cascades; Puget Sound; Olympic Peninsula; Central and Eastern Washington; Columbia Gorge). You provide the info and a photo or two, and we'll do the rest. If that's not enough, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of feature content, and perhaps even take on an assignment or two.

What's in it for you?

Foremost, putting your editorial and photographic prowess on display in the best magazine in Washington. Next, the satisfaction of assisting fellow hikers in getting out and enjoying the absolute best trail experiences available. And there might be a few rewards in the mix as well.

Get started!

Take our regional correspondent survey to get started. This will help us determine where you like to hike and what your interests are. At the end of January, we'll be selecting 2–3 correspondents from each region. And even if you're not selected as a correspondent, you'll still have the option to participate in our regular contributor pool. Complete your survey today!
