Become a WTA Ambassador
WTA is building a powerful hiker movement across the state
We invite you to join us and take your volunteerism to a new level as a champion for trails, hikers and public lands!
At WTA, we are committed to fostering an inclusive hiking community, where people of all identities are represented and feel welcome.
As a WTA Ambassador, you’ll help WTA be a voice for hikers around the state doing outreach and advocacy for trails in your local community.

Wherever you live in Washington, you can be a force for trails
Work on campaigns like Lost Trails Found or Trails Rebooted or be a part of local trail planning efforts such as Lake Whatcom Planning or the Teanaway Community Forest.
Depending on the needs in your region, you might represent WTA at a community event and chat with the public about how to get involved, attend a land manager meeting, give a presentation to a local group, or help WTA stay on top of issues that hikers care about in your backyard.
No prior experience is necessary and there is no predetermined time commitment. We’ll provide the training and tools.
Approved applicants will have access to:
- A webinar training series to gain valuable skills in outreach and advocacy
- A resources hub
- A group sharing platform with other WTA Ambassadors
- A chance to mentor new volunteers
- One-on-one support from WTA staff
With a 50-year legacy of engaging the hiking community, WTA is well positioned to be a catalyst that helps hikers connect others to the joys of hiking, enhance trails through stewardship, and speak up for trails and public lands at all levels.
Are you ready to step up, connect and inspire? We hope you'll join us as a volunteer WTA Ambassador and help unlock the power of the hiking community!
