Beginning in Cle Elum, walk gradually up along many old coal mining slag piles and fan houses toward Ronald. The Coal Mines Trail is well-maintained and as wide as a dirt road.
There is some parking near the entrance of the trail and no parking passes are required. From Cle Elum to Ronald, it is 5.5 miles with only a 453-foot elevation gain; about halfway down the trail, it crosses Highway 903 as you walk through Roslyn.
This trail is great for all types of hikers and visitors who would like to get a glimpse of the old mining activity that was once abundant in this area.
