Hiking James Pond Loop

The short James Pond Loop is a nice way to stretch your legs after the drive to the campground, or simply explore during your stay.

Kids will love the lush forest, viewed from a flat (if occasionally uneven) trail. And the pond itself may be difficult to spot, but it's a quiet, restful destination where you might get lucky and spot an elk or a larger animal!

It's possible to make this hike up to a mile and a half if you come from the campground. And if you add in the nearby Quillayute Slough Trail, you can get even more walking, if little legs need tired out, or if you want to practice forest bathing.

WTA Pro Tip: Save a copy of our directions before you leave! App-based driving directions aren't always accurate and data connections may be unreliable as you drive to the trailhead.

Getting There

From Highway 101, make your way to the intersections of Highway 110 and Highway 101, 1.5 miles north of Forks or 10.8 miles south of Sappho. Turn west onto Highway 110, and proceed 7.5 miles to a righthand turnoff for Mora Road.

Turn onto Mora Road and drive 3.3 miles to the parking area and gate to the Mora Campground. Park here, or venture into the campground and select your spot before walking back out here to the trailhead, found just across the road from the parking lot for the ranger station.
