Hiking Kestner Homestead - Maple Glade

This short interpretive takes you through a homestead from the 1800s. Relics from the past along the way include an old barn, the home that the Kestner and Higley families occupied, and various outbuildings and equipment they used.

Starting from the Quinault Rain Forest Ranger Station, hike counter-clockwise. You'll parallel Kestner Creek for the first part of your hike, then at a bend in the loop, turn northwest and emerge in the open field where the homestead sits. Amble through here and then turn back southwest, keeping an eye out for elk and enjoying the rich life in this rainforest.

Towards the end of the hike, the trail turns back east, and you're met with a junction. Here you can continue straight, or turn left. Turning left leads to the very short, wheelchair-friendly Maple Glade Nature Loop trail, a lovely add-on. Take this short detour before returning to the main trail at another junction. Turn left, and continue back to the ranger station to finish the loop.
