Hiking Lower Pete's Creek

The Lower Pete's Creek trail starts on the same side of the road as the parking area and privy. The Pete’s Creek trail to Colonel Bob is on the opposite side of the road, just behind the “Pete’s Creek Trail” sign. They’re easy to tell apart because Lower Pete's Creek starts flat, and the Pete's Creek trail to Colonel Bob begins climbing right away.

Lower Pete's Creek Trail is only a mile long, basically linking up the Colonel Bob trail with the West Fork Humptulips River Trail.

It wanders through lovely woods with some staggering Douglas-fir and western hemlock for about a third of a mile, flat with a few rutted sections.

Then there is a sign with a bicycle pictured warning of steep grades. The trail drops 400 feet to the Humptulips River, and at one mile from the trailhead, there are signs directing hikers to the West Fork Shelter, found northeast (left) along the West Fork Humptulips River Trail 806 towards Campbell Tree Grove Campground, and the Middle and Upper W. Fork Humptulips Trails, or SW (right) towards the Gorge Bridge.

The trail in both directions travels along the river in yet more lovely woods.
