Here's a good training hike to the site of a former fire lookout. You'll get a workout in heading through the tangle of salal, Oregon grape, and imposing rhododenrons. WTA Pro Tip: Save a copy of our directions before you leave! App-based driving directions aren't always accurate and data connections may be unreliable as you drive to the trailhead.

Getting There

Drive 2.5 miles west on Highway 101 from Sequim. Turn left onto Taylor Cutoff Road, and drive 2.6 miles, then turn right onto Lost Mountain Road.

Drive another 2.6 miles, and then turn left onto FR 2870. Continue on this dirt road for 1 mile, entering Olympic National Park, and then turning right at a junction with FR 2875. Drive this wide road for 3.5 miles to the Slab Camp trailhead, and follow it as the road bends left, following FR 2878 for another half mile mile to the trailhead on your right.
