Sequim Bay State Park is just outside Sequim proper on Highway 101. Hikers can piece together a shy mile loop from a trailhead on the main park road, walking next to an unnamed creek down to Sequim Bay, then back up toward the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT) and the campground loops. Along the fern-filled path are some unexpected touches – a sturdy plank bridge, an ornate covered bridge and a hand-carved “TRAIL <-->” sign.
The park has standard and full-hookup campsites, an amphitheater, day-use picnic shelters, horseshoe pits and a passageway under Highway 101 that leads to a basketball/tennis court and a softball/soccer field in fair repair. But the star of the show is the marina/boat launch, with benches, picnic tables and a 180-degree view of Sequim Bay and the distant pair of spits (sandbars) that keep the bay waters calm. With a recreational license, you can fish and harvest clams and crabs from the rocky beach.
There aren't a whole lot of hiking trails in the park itself — about a mile of them — but there's easy access to the ODT, which provides hikers, runners and cyclists with over one hundred miles of trail to explore across the northern edge of the Olympic Peninsula.
