Hiking Tacoma DeMolay Sandspit Nature Preserve

The Tacoma DeMolay Sandspit Nature Preserve is a 5-acre area within which sits a sand spit jutting into the Carr Inlet in the Puget Sound. The sensitive area acts as a safe haven for native flora and fauna — as such, please follow Leave No Trace principles so others can enjoy the space as you do after you have left.

Getting There

From Tacoma, head west on WA-16. Take the Wollochet Dr NW (Waterfront) exit toward City Center. Turn left onto Wollochet Dr. In 2.6 miles, continue straight onto 40th St NW. In 0.7 mile, turn left onto 70th Ave NW. At the T-junction in 0.5 mile, turn right onto 32nd St NW/Warren Dr. Soon, cross the Fox Island Bridge and turn right onto Bella Bella Dr. At the end of the road, veer left. Drive uphill a little (past the "parking in upper lot only" and "no parking on roadway" signs) and the parking lot will be on your right. 

The parking lot can hold a couple dozen cars.
