The last 2 miles of highway before the gate at deer creek was covered in a light layer of slush but wouldn't pose a problem for any vehicles. There was enough snow past the gate that snowshoes or xc skis would be useful but there's a solid footpath thru the snow, you could use gaiters & boots too. Big Four is a beautiful mountain even without the ice caves this time of year. Unfortunately it was mostly covered by clouds today. Part of the bridge over the river is gone so you can't enter the avalanche zone at the base of the mountain. Snowed on & off, a little breezy at times but lovely quiet winter wonderland today!

Thanks for the trip report. I was wondering what the condition of the road and trail.

Good to know the conditions. Looks like it might be snow-ready for a snow campin' with my Golden! Your pictures (of the mountain especially) are very good! Were you using more than a simple smartphone camera? I'm guessing so, I can't get that fine close detail with my Android-Moto Play2. Hope to see you out there!
