Mima Mounds — Monday, Feb. 17, 2020

Olympic Peninsula > Olympia
“Mima Mounds” by Aura Rose

It is absolutely sunning here. There is a 0.5 mile ADA accessible trail as well as a few look out points including one that has a ramp! There is also a pit toilet at the trailhead.

The Reindeer Lichen is particularly abundant & amazing right now. I’m sure during spring + summer are totally full of wildflowers. We could swear we saw a few places where they are just starting to sprout! Only time will tell if we’re right. I can’t believe we’re just now checking this place out! It’s really quite amazing & it’s just something you need to experience. We were completely alone on the trail for most of the time we were here too & if you don’t count the semi-infrequent noise of the capitol gun club, it was completely quiet. There’s really small spots of mud here & there that aren’t a big deal, but I can imagine they would kinda suck if we get any substantial rain. We just wore our regular shoes.

There’s regular signage & I’ve included a photo of the trail map below at one of the turn offs.
