This is a nice place to see native Pacific Rhododendrons in bloom. This lesser known trail is just west of Hwy 101 near Mt Walker (another great Rhody site).
The campground gate is closed and some logging activity has recently occurred around the campground. The trail has a small upper loop with a view of the falls and a longer lower lolipop loop that descends into the canyon. The canyon is very lush and green now. The west side of the loop follows the Big Quilcene River
There is powerful cascade type waterfall on the Big Quilcene River 1.2 miles from 101 parking. The trail continues for 1.5 miles then loops back.
The best Rhodies are actually on Hwy 101, 1/4 miles south of the Campground entrance at a big pull out.
2.5 miles RT (AllTrails tracing is not complete). Also AllTrails doesn't have this trail on it's map.
This is also a good time to hike the Mt Walker trail. The trail is open and the road to the top is closed.
