Trip Report

Mount Washington — Sunday, May. 24, 2020

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area

Beautiful day for a tough climb up to the summit! Trail entrance is right by the restroom. Either get there early or later in the day to find parking...arrived at 8:20, the lot was 90% full and when I left at 3 the parking along the street was packed too.

Trail is nothing but up for most of it with a few flat stretches that allow you to make up time. Few creeks/snow melt to cross and at one point you're walking up snow melt but waterproof hiking boots should keep your feet dry. Right about 3000 elev you'll encounter snow (by the horse gate) but easy to traverse; popular trail = easy to follow boot path which might be a bit slippery coming down (further up the trail at the 2nd snow field where there's a slightly steeper grade) if you're doing it in sneakers (brought traction but didn't need). The last stretch is a good climb, but you'll be rewarded with lovely views all around! Total hiking time was 3.5 up, 2 down but I'm always the caboose, never the engine.

As a reminder, leash your pups and don't feed the Grey Jays. Also saw quite a few folks wearing/using masks as they passed others and practicing social distancing while lunching at the summit.
