Trip Report

Middle Fork Snoqualmie River — Monday, May. 25, 2020

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
The first log

**I want to start this trip report off by saying I believe that this trail is supposed to still be closed. I did not notice the small sign on the board until after we returned from the hike.**

This trip report will be more oriented towards the trail work needed. The hike was 2.25 miles out on the Middle Fork Snoqualmie trail which took us through the slide zone. The main obstacle on the trail would be trees down. There is approximately 8 trees down before the slide and 18 trees down in the 0.75 miles past the slide. I did not count trees down through the slide for obvious reasons. The majority of the trees down would be an A sawyer log, being already on the ground with a handful of B sawyer logs with some suspension. The one log that could be classified as a high B due to its steep angle, is actually the closest to the trailhead and is a short ways past the bridge. There are a couple of puncheons past the slide that were damaged due to tree fall. Additionally, there are a number of places that need drainage work and could use some brushing. Saw a number of other users on the trail as well probably not seeing the sign too.

Shortly before the slide
Puncheon #1 - after slide
Puncheon #2 - after slide

George & Sally on Middle Fork Snoqualmie River

According to the Forest Service website under the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie Forest, Snoqualmie Ranger District the Middle Fork Trail was closed under order No. 06-05-19-01 starting January 30, 2019 and ending January 29, 2020. So looks the trail is back open for now. It will take some work to reroute the trail above the land slide area along with cutting out the blown down trees. George
