Trip Report

Stegosaurus Butte — Saturday, Jul. 4, 2020

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area

What a hike! Just going straight up the slope for most of the time. Once on the Pratt River trail we missed the left turn to the Stegosaurus Butte the first time. On the Pratt river trail, if you reach a wooden bridge by a waterfall, know that you missed the turn. The quarter mile estimate in the trail description on WTA is accurate though. I have also attached pictures below with illustrations to show the trail and planted some wooden branches by the turn, to hopefully make it easier to spot. Once you take the turn, it is a challenging hike.

Tip 1) its going to take similar amount of time to go up vs coming down because finding footing on the way down is trickier. Tip 2) Get your hiking poles. Your knees will thank you. Tip 3) I probably wouldn't want to do this hike during/after a rain as again, getting good footing could be trickier when the trail is slippery.

Three mosquitoes managed to bite me while we took a snack break at the top. One of them got away with it. We didn't go to the true summit as the trail description said there aren't any views there. Stopped at a small clearing before the saddle and marveled at the view of Garfield mountain looming in front of us.

Update : Added a photo from the viewpoint at the top
