Just a few addendums to the previous excellent reports. Parking is free at Crystal and dayhikers are welcome to use the topmost lot (A) but overnighters are asked to park in the next lot down (B).
Also, the Bullion trail shares with their snowshoeing trails, just stay on dirt and you'll be fine. Start on the Mary Lee snowshoe route and then follow the Ted snowshoe route and keep going up when the Ted route turns back downhill to Crystal. Alternatively, just follow the horse poop, that's the right direction.
I was amazed to see how close the fire got to the resort, one photo of that, very close! Also amazed to see a few green survivalist tree among the sea of burn. I took the PCT up to Basin Lake and then looped back on #987 to get back to the PCT. A few steep snow field on 987 but they are melting out fast.
