Beautiful morning to be here! Rolled up about 6:30 am, saw a big coyote howling 30 yards ahead of me on the trail right at the start. It just kept walking and howling, at some point it veered off thankfully. Didnt get a picture, but this coyote was bigger than I'd ever seen one.
Hiked as far as the Rainier boundary. As the clouds burned off it was extremely gorgeous. First time past Sheep Lake, if you can make it to the boundary and beyond right above Upper Crystal DO IT. It really isn't much of an elevation gain.
4 groups camped at the lake on a Friday morning. Saw nobody hiking on the way up, about 20 on the way down. People are getting the hint, many are wearing masks on the trail!
