Peek-a-Boo Lake — Saturday, Jul. 11, 2020

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

Enjoyed the serenity of the outdoors on this fun little hike.  Although I will admit - it felt harder than it should have with my toddler strapped to my back!

- As others have previously mentioned, the Forest Service Road is washed out...I BARELY made it over with my Subaru Forester, and felt it bottom out for a split second.  I only recommend attempting with a high clearance truck or a vehicle with 4x4.  (I assume that this obstacle also correlates to the lack of popularity for this hike, which I will totally take as we only saw 7 other people on the entire hire (1 solo and 3 twosomes).

- The trail itself is a bit rough...it is quite rocky in places with lots of roots to mind.  Poles were helpful navigating these while descending.  There are also multiple downed trees across the trail, including two very large ones.  To scramble over the biggest, I had to take my toddler off my back and hoist the carrier to my hiking buddy on the other side, then amble over myself.  It would have been too precarious to have done it alone.

- There is minimal snow as you near the lake & lookout.  No additional gear required.

- Bugs were an annoyance...don't forget bug repellent like we did! One day later and I have some serious mosquito bites on my arms and neck.

Overall I would highly recommend :)
