Truman Trail - Pumice Plains — Saturday, Jul. 11, 2020

South Cascades > Mount St. Helens

Hiked from Windy Ridge parking lot starting with a mostly sunny day.  Views were tremendous and wind gusts were steady but still warm enough for shorts and a layer.  We headed up what was clearly a maintained gravel road around a few bends until you could see down in to the pumice laden wash outs.  The wildflowers were everywhere - the most paintbrush I've ever seen in large patches.

About 2 miles in you reached the remnants of washes that likely still fill with snow melt early in the spring.  Great views of Spirit Lake from above.  We turned around just over 2.5 miles to head back.

Met a few sets of low key mountain bikers making their way on the road on the way back.  No snow on the trail nor bugs to be seen.  Just bring a wind breaker, sunscreen and some long sleeves to prepare for the weather.
